God Always Turns Calamity and Chaos Into Eternal Blessing

‘We know that all things work together (and are fitting into a plan) for good to them that love God and for those who are the called according to His purpose.’

Do I dare make such a statement when there are unparalleled outbreaks of fires, floods, earthquakes and deadly storms all over this earth plus numerous nations threatening war while terrorists spread anguish and fear? I did not make that statement though....... God did.... in Romans 8, but I can attest to it and assure you from countless personal experiences that God does turn utter chaos into inevitable blessings. My one recent, very simplistic and certainly non-catastrophic event will paint a picture, I hope, of God’s nature and heart.

My son Steve mentioned that my daughter-in-law might have to be induced into labor prematurely and that he would keep us all informed. He then fell off the face of the earth. Twenty-four hours later his brother Mike agreed that I should call the hospital in Ohio to see if she had been admitted.

This was much easier said than done. The 4-1-1 operator gave us the number of the wrong hospital which I did not realize at the time because I phoned and asked for Robin by her maiden name. I very calmly explained to my husband and Mike that it was a legitimate mistake since this was my first grandchild. Definitely a slip of the tongue and by no means a sign of old age.

After calling the hospital a second time and using her proper name I was informed that they didn’t have anyone by the name of Martonfi either. Not one to be shluffed off easily, I pursued the matter and found I had called the General Hospital instead of City Hospital. Bear with me now, this all has relevance and bear in mind it’s all long-distance.

Once again I dialed 4-1-1 explaining their mistake. When I finally reached the right hospital and used the right name the operator accidentally disconnected me. With a Cheshire cat grin on my face I called back stating calmly that all I wanted to know was if Robin Martonfi had been admitted into maternity. Without replying to my question the operator stated she would put me through to the ‘maternity ward’ and then I heard that annoying hum that meant I’d been disconnected a second time.

Even though annoyed and irritated by these costly and unnecessary mistakes, I was polite and told the operator that I merely wanted the ‘nursing station’ in maternity. She responded with a brisk, "One moment please," at which point I actually heard the sound of ringing. The only problem was that it rang and rang and rang for over 30 times without anyone answering or even aware that a potentially frazzled grandmother-to-be was about to unravel.

On my eighth attempt the phone rang just once. I was shocked when I realized that it was Steve on the other end of the phone. I was actually connected directly into the delivery room. Noticeably very choked up with emotion he blurted, "He just came out. Right now! He’s here!" The very next sound was my grandbaby’s first cry. Glory to God, I was present at his birth.! ONLY God could do that! ONLY God can take a situation that seems futile and hopeless and bless me beyond my understanding.

Two thousand years ago Jesus explained about these seemingly hopeless days we’re living in, ‘You will hear of wars and rumors of wars; see that you are not frightened or troubled, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in place after place. All this is but the beginning of sorrows.’

Did you notice that He told us not to be troubled or frightened? Even as cataclysmic events unfold because of mankind’s own destructive behavior and conduct, those that know the Lord can find refuge and shelter under the shadow of God’s wings while He uses these events to BIRTH multitudes into the kingdom of God.
