Note from Donna -- Just about every Christian Radio program that I tune into encourages this practice -- AVOID IT & WARN OTHERS

Spiritual breathing. Perhaps you have heard this term. Itīs certainly growing in popularity. A simple search on google shows that the term comes up over 10,000 times. And many of these pages on the Internet are from Christian sources, like the one below:
(("Another great way to prepare for your fast is to practice what I call "Spiritual Breathing." The concept is simple, but it has changed my own life and that of millions of others.
Like physical breathing, Spiritual Breathing is a process of exhaling the impure and inhaling the pure. If you knowingly sin, breathe spiritually to restore the fullness of Godīs Holy Spirit in your life. You exhale by confessing your sins immediately when you become aware of them, and you inhale by inviting the Holy Spirit to re-take control of your life. As an act of faith, trust Him to empower you. During the fast, spiritual breathing-constant reliance on the Holy Spirit-will enable you to resist temptation, not only to sin but to abandon your fast. (From Dr. Bill Bright, Campus Crusade for Christ)"))
The late Bill Bright isnīt the only one who has encouraged Spiritual Breathing. Christian Women Today magazine (also part of CCC) talks about the breathing method in their article, Spiritual Oxygen: Are You Getting It? And in a 2004 interview with USA Today, Rick Warren states: "Confession is īspiritual breathing.ī Exhale your sins, inhale Godīs love."1 The Global Prayer Movement encourages the practice as well. 2 (page 19)
The question some may ask is "What is wrong with Spiritual Breathing? Breathe out the bad; breathe in the good. Letīs briefly look at three good reasons why Christians should not be practicing Spiritual Breathing.
1. No where in Scripture does Jesus or the disciples tell us to use this method to confess our sins and be filled with the Holy Spirit. Such instruction is simply not found in the Bible.
2. On the contrary, there is instruction to avoid such practices. The Bible tells us not to practice divination. Divination is where a method or ritual is implemented in order to connect with a spiritual source and gain some kind of knowledge or benefit. And that is what is also taking place with Spiritual Breathing. We are doing a method in order to gain some benefit from the spiritual realm. When Bill Bright said to "inhale by inviting the Holy Spirit to re-take control of your life," and to exhale our impurities while confessing our sins, he is suggesting that this method can actually give us victory and power to overcome our sins.
3. This is really no different than "spiritual breathing" in Hinduism or the New Age. Dan Brule, a leader in the "Spiritual Breathing Movement" says: Spiritual Breathing is the quickest way to clear your head, settle your stomach, calm your nerves, and open your heart. It will uplift you, center you, and ground you in your being. Spiritual Breathing opens your heart to love and fills your body with light and life....Breathwork is a spiritual technology for purification and awakening. When you work with the breath, you automatically develop spiritual skills. To play with breath is to play with the subtlest form of matter. Thatīs why people who have mastered spiritual breathing can accomplish so much on the level of subtle energies.
Spiritual Breathing makes it clear that the original creative life force energy that built our bodies in the womb is still available to us, to maintain and even rebuild the body.
Yoga is the science of union (with God). And yoga holds as a central truth that Breath is the connection, the bridge between mind and body, between the visible and the invisible. Breath connects us to each other, and it connects all of us to God, nature and existence.3 The fact that Scripture never tells us to perform such a ritual, and in fact warns against such practices, should be reason enough to NOT do spiritual breathing. But knowing that the very same ideology is practiced by Hindus and New Agers, who believe that God is in all and all are connected to God and each other should solidify in any Christianīs mind once and for all that spiritual breathing will not lead us closer to Him at all but will rather lead us into a spiritual realm of confusion, darkness and delusion.
There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch. Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. Deuteronomy 18:10-12 Divination: The art or practice that seeks to discover hidden knowledge by the the aid of supernatural powers. (Websterīs)
