My objective this month is not to bless you, entertain you, or make you laugh. Right at the moment there is so much of that going on out there that I feel I need to bring balance to this equation. I have one mandate burning in my bones. It is to simply preach the word of God and exhort you to prepare for eternity. (I really don´t do that often enough I´m afraid)
So, I will pose the question from that age old hymn which asks, "Are you washed in the blood, in the soul-cleansing blood of the Lamb? Are your garments spotless, are they white as snow? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb?" If you are not, then please allow me to advise you, do not let this day pass without seriously considering and then accepting the forgiveness for your sins which was made available to you through the shed blood of Jesus, who was God´s sacrificial lamb on that cross at Calvary.
As a record number of people flocked to the church services, some for the first time in a year, to celebrate ´Resurrection Day´, (previously referred to as Easter) I wondered how many actually realized that this same Jesus is about to return in the very near future as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. I wondered if they were even aware of the chain of events that scripture reveals would precede His return.
Probably not, even though there are hundreds of specific events unfolding that confirm we are living in the last days, prophecy foretells that ´as the days of Noe (Noah) were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark. And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." (Matt. 24:37-39 KJV)
This implies that most people either do not know or are just not paying any attention to these prophecies. If they were, there would be such an explosion of righteousness that it would spill into every sector of society.
Today a friend sent me one of David Wilkerson´s recent articles and another friend e-mailed me a prophetic word that Wilkerson gave about the economic nightmare that loomed on the horizon.
I believe Pastor David Wilkerson, from Times Square Church in New York City, is ´the´ Prophet of God for this nation. When he speaks, I pay serious attention! This economic collapse is one of the major prophecies that is foretold in the book of Revelation and Wilkerson says that God showed him it is just around the corner.
These prophecies are not given to scare anyone but are given instead to prepare us for what is to come. Wilkerson said, "...that this warning was given so that we can better get our prayer life straightened up, our lives straightened up and get rid of the idols, as Paul writes, and seek the face of God in holiness or you´re not going to be ready for what´s coming. God´s warning to get ready so you´ll not fear these things that come onto you and you´ll start rejoicing instead. You´ll not be afraid because your hands will be clean. If you´ve been praying, then God´s been building a wall of fire around you, to keep you."
This word immediately reminded me of the story in I Kings chapter 17 where the Lord sent the prophet Elijah to the Brook Cherith during a three year draught. Then God directed ravens to bring him meat and bread every morning and every evening. God did not send him a month´s worth of groceries or a week´s supply of food. No, those ravens returned every morning and every evening. The Brook Cherith was not Niagara Falls, it was only a trickle. It was just enough to sustain Elijah one day at a time.
Whether because of an economic collapse or because of some other major catastrophe, I honestly believe that in the very near future we are going to have to completely depend on God for one day at a time in the same way. I also know that there are people for whom such things will not rock or shake their world one bit. People like my friend Lena who was just here on a two week visit. She is a pastor and missionary in Dominica but has been my mentor and role model for more than 30 years. I´ve watched her life closely. She prays, she sings, she fasts and she is totally consumed with God 24/7´s. She lives that way moment by moment, day by day, no matter what is going on in her life. I know that she is fully prepared for whatever lies ahead. Are you?
