Hopefully I will not come across as the morality enforcer, but I think I really need to preach at you today. It´s in my job description so I´ll feel free. I get almost blown away by what I see on television and I have had to place my hand over my computer monitor and shield what is popping up on my screen while I am on the Internet as I frantically look for the button that will make it go away. But after an incident that happened this afternoon, I could not wait to get a pen and paper and begin recording the thoughts that went racing through my head.
A senior citizen approached a group of us chuckling that she had the most amusing story to relate. Even though she was a complete stranger to me and my husband she opened her clenched fist and produced a thong and said her two great-grandsons, aged seven and nine, mailed it to her for Christmas. Then she unfolded a large piece of paper and showed us what she was sending back to them. It was the rear view of a very shapely, voluptuous, naked female wearing nothing but a thong. I do not want to get graphic about the pose but there was absolutely nothing left to the imagination. While laughing so hard she could hardly contain herself, she said something to the effect that she told her great-grandsons that she was modeling this thong for them, implying that it was HER naked body.
Perversion in Webster´s dictionary is defined as something that is turned away from what is right or good. It continues with the definition that perversion is obstinate in opposing what is right, reasonable or accepted.
Since when did mailing naked pictures to your great-grandchildren become reasonable or accepted? Or showing naked pictures to anyone for that matter?
Did this woman think that somehow she would be considered a swinging grandmother or that these children would consider her their fun loving buddy? Children do not need another friend. What they need is parenting and instruction in integrity, morality and self respect. They need sound role models. They need someone older and wiser to set an example and to guide them into becoming stable, mature adults and productive members of society.
Perversion on the other hand will eat away at the very fabric of society. It will sear people´s hearts. It will pollute all that is decent and holy and pure.
Decency, holiness and purity are considered as obsolete as bobby-socks but they are the very virtues that distinguish us from the animal kingdom. But I guess if people are taught to believe that they descended from apes then it is not surprising that it will have a grave impact on the way they behave. Since they do not believe that there is a higher intelligent omniscient being who is responsible for their very breath, it is easy to see why they will be offended by a public display of the Ten Commandments or disparage a ball player for taking a moment to ask God´s blessing on his teams performance instead of being shocked at the immorality assaulting their lives.
Had you come to me 35 years ago with today´s events I would have thought you were insane. Fortunately today´s current phenomena did not catch God by surprise or off guard. Two thousand years ago the book of Romans recorded that ´the truth about God would be known to all mankind because He Himself has put this knowledge in their hearts and revealed it in all of creation itself." But, "those who reject God would become vain in their imaginations and their foolish hearts would become darkened... professing themselves to be wise, they would become fools". It goes on to warn; "Be not conformed to this world but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God".
Those that would turn to God through faith in Jesus Christ, would become "the salt of the earth and lights shining brightly in the darkness´, conformed to His likeness and character, pointing and leading others to the saving knowledge of God and the remission of their sins.
Does your definition of offensive line up with God´s or with the world´s?
